Maritime Celebrates 5 years

Maritime Transport is celebrating five years of trading as an independent concern. The Company has been one of the real success stories in the UK transport industry in recent times.

Maritime was acquired from Hutchison Ports in September 2001. Since then, under the ownership of John Williams, the Company has enjoyed continuous growth and has earned a reputation for delivering quality container transport solutions.

"Our achievements have exceeded our expectations of the business and Maritime has gone from strength to strength", says John Williams, Managing Director of Maritime Transport Ltd.. "In hindsight, we entered the market at exactly the right time and we also enjoyed great support from our customers, suppliers and staff throughout the last five years".

Since 2001, Maritime has concentrated its efforts and investment at the front-end of the business. It has built up an unrivalled network of depots at the deep-sea container ports, as well as in the key consumer centres in the UK. The network now includes Bristol, Hams Hall, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Southampton, Thamesport and Tilbury, as well as Felixstowe the location of the Company's headquarters.

Technology also plays a crucial role in linking the transport network and allowing the Company to handle 1,200 container moves a day, four times the daily average of 2001.

The fleet has grown from 136 vehicles to nearly 400, to match the Company's exponential growth and combined with dedicated sub-contractors, the total available daily resource to the Company now stands at 600.

Today, Maritime is the largest company in the container transport sector and one of the most respected hauliers in the UK. So where does the Company go from here? According to John Williams, "Our ambition is not to be the biggest, but to grow by building long-term commercial relationships, offering competitively priced, quality services, which benefit both supplier and customer".
